First formed about 60 million years ago in the Tertiary era,
and then re-shaped by glaciers over thousands of years,
Ailsa Craig is famous as a source for curling stone granite.

More recently becoming an RSPB sanctuary,
Ailsa Craig is home to 36,000 pairs of gannets and numerous guillemots, blackguillemots,
razorbills and also increasing numbers of puffins; it is a must for any ornithologist.

If conditions are suitable we will land, but a typical trip circles the Island
which gives excellent views of the colonies on the South and West of the Island.
